# Compact Help Windows development preview This is the scoped runnable contribution for [issue 39](http://217.177.34.108:3000/sorokin.oleg.edu/ARCADIA-Studio/issues/39), based on the frozen integrated preview `715036e132677dd2bc2fb37ed316d93dc9987aec`. It removes permanent diagram tutorial prose, keeps concise stable controls and full allocation destinations, and adds contextual Help/F1 with keyboard reading and exact editor draft/caret preservation. Arrange cancellation retires its obsolete armed status. [Decisions, rejected layouts and contribution gates](compact-help-validation-20261001.md) remain authoritative for the production change. ## Inputs and artifact Package version: `0.2.0-preview.compact-help.20261001`; target: `x86_64-pc-windows-gnullvm`; dev/unoptimized profile with debug assertions. Desktop source is `6e7c4ddaf0775198384a8c4882809ea8e14b2976`; package documentation is `ea23e229260d7d050b3c3b88e77c3a851e936abe`. The server is the exact unchanged released 715 artifact; core/server/Cargo/vendor inputs remain unchanged. This is explicit per-binary reuse, not a server rebuild from the desktop commit. | Input | SHA256 | | --- | --- | | Studio | `d55ecad4b0f75c0c9c26625e5441bef9c9360890b65bc13236c6ebfaf03d631e` | | Server | `6cebacc117e46fdab023c6402a5cebd6929fb55993ae8ff6b89cd1c6c1170237` | | Selected libunwind | `f45604a12e8bcd839fd86f667c1be1cc7c4f9da2b3c69ff381ac708f0e1ae7d4` | | Studio ZIP | `18af75c7aea60bb0d5db5b1925d0d0815ecd08afc5bb258438851cfda809a6f2` | ZIP: **34,184,534 bytes**, 565 files. The [package evidence packet](experiments/compact-help-20261001/package/README.md) retains provenance, integrity checks, independent artifact/server review, native reports/screenshots, actual launch receipts, source/model oracles and captured HTTP exchanges. Dependency notices and complete packaged documentation are in the ZIP itself rather than duplicated in the evidence index. The [incremental independent review](experiments/compact-help-20261001/incremental-review.md) rechecks all 140 captured files and the added warning evidence. A separate [indexed-byte check](experiments/compact-help-20261001/indexed-evidence-check.json) verifies Git preserves the exact captured bytes; the packet's scoped attributes disable line-ending conversion without changing production source policy. ## Verification and its limits Final contribution formatting, strict all-target desktop Clippy, GUI build and 125 focused tests pass. The earlier 5657 full desktop result remains separately scoped: 1,538 pass / one new synthetic typing-fixture failure / seven ignores. The fixed fixture passes fully in the final focused run; 1,421 unrelated final tests were not rerun. No full-suite final-commit claim is made. Fresh extraction verifies all 565 files. Independent artifact review verifies archive names/content, manifest/input hashes, PE imports, notices and docs. The selected DLL differs from the prior server's packaged DLL, so fresh server checks test this exact pairing with system-only PATH and an isolated store: readiness, exact OpenAPI, source import/edit/read, ETag/revision changes, 412 stale write refusal and exact acknowledged-write persistence through an owned forced restart. The first harness adaptation garbled an intended Unicode comment; its evidence remains. A fresh corrected U+2014/CRLF run passes 23 checks and is independently reconciled. This is not graceful-shutdown or power-loss acceptance. Native package trials on Windows11 open bundled walkthrough/offline Help, edit at 1100x700, preserve exact caret through F1/Escape/Close, Apply one Activity name, Save All, Undo/Redo, fresh-directory Save As, fresh-process reopen and no-op Save. Both desktop processes exit 0 with empty logs; all 565 package files remain unchanged. The complete 37-file source oracle changes only the declared name literal and entry filename; seven non-source companions were separately copied, while the application wrote 30 source files. A separate packaged-server oracle compares the complete pristine/saved models and exact source bundles: only the declared Activity name differs. Fresh independent read-only reconciliation passes. The initial same-folder/new-entry Save As is correctly refused by destination protection; all 37 files stay unchanged and recovery succeeds. Its misleading external-change wording is tracked separately in [issue 46](http://217.177.34.108:3000/sorokin.oleg.edu/ARCADIA-Studio/issues/46), not hidden or counted as a successful save. After the name edit, native checks show two model warnings rather than the pristine example's one; no error-free model claim is inferred from UI counts. A read-only validation query confirms both pristine and saved models are valid. The additional warning is exactly `trace_drift` / `OaChanged`: the linked OA name changed after its reviewed transition baseline, while the existing behavior-coverage warning remains. No trace was silently rewritten or reconciled by the rename. This unfinished preview excludes separately owned projection/navigation, outgoing-drag, icons, grid/performance and State-label increments. Dense routes, remaining Scenario group adapters, quantities/calculations/constraints, maintained libraries, full OA/SA acceptance and broad accessibility/DPI coverage remain unfinished. Current tests use one Windows machine/account with restricted child PATH, not a second clean machine or isolated new user profile. Linux/WSL checks remain user-deferred. Existing published releases remain frozen. ## Run and reproduce Verify the adjacent ZIP SHA256, extract the entire directory and open `arcadia-studio.exe`, keeping `libunwind.dll` beside both executables. Read `START-HERE.txt`; use Home's water-pressure walkthrough and Help/F1. Copy the complete example folder before editing. Save All updates the loaded source; Save As needs a fresh source destination and retains include paths. It does not clone every external artifact or tutorial companion. Optional server, from an extracted bundle in a writable working directory: ```powershell .\arcadia-server.exe --bind 127.0.0.1:8787 --data-dir C:/ArcadiaModels/server ``` Read packaged `docs/server.md` and `docs/api.rst` for REST/deployment/authentication. No remote service deployment is claimed. Cargo/Docker recipes require a source checkout separately. Source checks with Rust 1.98.1 and the recorded gnullvm toolchain environment: ```powershell cargo fmt --all -- --check cargo clippy --locked -p oa-desktop --all-targets -- -D warnings cargo build --locked -p oa-desktop --bin arcadia-studio cargo test --locked -p oa-desktop -- context_help_tests allocation_drag guide::tests --test-threads=1 ``` For package reconstruction, use `scripts/package-windows.ps1` with explicit `-Target x86_64-pc-windows-gnullvm`, the recorded version, verified binary directory, matching LLVM-MinGW root, the packet's BuildEvidence and a fresh OutputRoot. The script performs integrity/notices checks, not compilation or native acceptance. [Windows packaging](../docs/windows-packaging.md) defines the full procedure.
