Independent package46 packet closure review

Final bounded closure review, 2026-10-01 PDT. No material blocker found in collection integrity, the offline verifier, staged evidence preservation or the reviewed documentation updates. This extends the earlier raw independent package review; it does not replace it or repeat its native/runtime results. Publication, commit/push confirmation and released-asset download readback remain future parent-owned gates.

Only this report was written. No raw packet, source, helper, documentation, index or Git history was changed; no archive extraction, native GUI, Cargo, application/server launch or REST request was repeated.

What was checked

Read the collector and verifier as source, packet README and both scoped attribute files, staged STATE/contribution-note changes, and final release-validation text. The collector requires a fresh destination and completed receipts, verifies the extracted-package file inventory before capture, rejects duplicate destinations/symlinks and excluded executable/archive inputs, hashes each source before and after copying, and creates a manifest of the captured packet. It does not rewrite raw native/HTTP data into normalized text or merge into an old packet.

Independently reconciled every collection receipt entry against both the raw file and its original local source. All 162 copied files are byte-identical to their originals. The collector additionally creates raw .gitattributes and collection-receipt.json, producing 164 inventoried files / 15,568,173 bytes. evidence-files.json is outside its own inventory: the raw directory therefore contains 165 actual files including the inventory. README's “164 indexed files … plus the inventory itself” is consistent with this convention.

Ran the collected offline verifier exactly once:

& 'C:/Users/User/.cache/codex-runtimes/codex-primary-runtime/dependencies/python/python.exe' harness/experiments/save-diagnostics-package-20261001/raw/verify.py --index --current-source

Exit 0, result:

{"status":"PASS","evidence_files":164,"source_files":637,"index_checked":true,"current_source_checked":true,"scope":"Offline identity and complete source/model receipt consistency; no repeated native or compiler execution."}

The optional index check reads each staged blob through Git and requires exact byte equality with the raw file, including ignored logs and original CRLF/terminal/HTTP bytes. The source check resolves the recorded commit's Git tree, checks every recorded source blob identity, and additionally checks current bytes for all 637 source inputs. It does not rely on a clean working-tree assertion to hide the staged documentation changes.

Evaluator scope and correctness

The verifier performs substantive reconstruction beyond checking PASS strings:

  • Exact packet file membership and every recorded size/SHA256; exact staged bytes with the option used above.
  • Pinned source Git identities; current-source hashes with the option used above; complete packaged build-evidence equality and package/extraction input hash consistency.
  • Both native process results and actual empty stdout/stderr files.
  • All three full 30-file source requests equal their returned source bundles. Both complete saved Projects equal pristine plus exactly the declared Activity-name change; all other fields remain in the comparison.
  • Reconstructs pristine 37-file contents from the complete 30-source-file request plus seven captured companion files, and checks the complete baseline hashes. Reconstructs only the literal name replacement and declared external comment, then checks every full filename/hash set in the eight phase receipts.
  • Fresh-reopen byte receipt equals the complete saved expected state.
  • Valid-model response equality, exact original work-context warning identity/severity, and exactly one additional trace_drift/baseline/OaChanged warning on the specified trace. No unexpected warning delta is ignored.
  • Nineteen captured images remain present.

The implementation is read-only: it does not execute captured scripts, compiler, GUI or server, and the original Windows paths in archived helpers are not silently treated as portable replay instructions. README correctly warns about adapting runtime helpers to fresh directories and never replaying injection against a user's project.

Important limits remain explicit. The offline verifier checks the server smoke's PASS/count receipt and hashes its raw HTTP records; it does not replay all 23 REST assertions or the requests. The previous independent review read and reconciled those responses, while the new packet preserves them unchanged. Native intermediate bytes are phase receipts and observed interaction evidence, not direct access to past on-disk states. Stores/working directories and executable archives are intentionally excluded; captured complete model/source envelopes support offline structural checks, and artifact identity points to the separately delivered ZIP. Git and the recorded source commit must exist in the checkout for the pinned-source step. These are acceptable limits for an evidence verifier, not missing functionality disguised as a new runtime test.

Scoped byte preservation

The parent .gitattributes contains only:

raw/** -text whitespace=cr-at-eol,-blank-at-eof

Raw's own attributes preserve text bytes with * -text and **/* -text. The new whitespace exceptions apply only to captured raw evidence; they do not change Rust, production source, normal documentation or general repository formatting rules. Most importantly, the staged-blob comparison passed without changing the inventory or captured bytes. Initial diff-check complaints about CRLF and intentional blank EOF lines therefore do not justify rewriting raw logs/HTTP. The scoped solution preserves the evidence rather than weakening its hash/byte oracle.

Documentation closure

The packet README distinguishes the preparation-helper author's artifact precheck from the independent final review and parent-operated native observation. It names the separate desktop, server and package-doc source IDs, gives the exact ZIP identity, documents the inventory convention and verifier flags, and preserves failed assumptions and testing limits. It does not promise portable execution of the historical scripts or treat the one-account Windows run as clean-machine/whole-platform acceptance.

STATE's added paragraph links the completed fresh package validation, describes the actual saved-state/refusal/recovery/reopen checks and 23 server assertions, and explicitly says publication is pending and the separately owned follow-up union is outside scope. Its preceding contribution paragraph retains historical normal/minimum-window evidence separately; it does not claim the new package repeated that minimum-size test.

The contribution-note change points to the later extracted-runtime evidence while keeping publication and broader integration separate. The final release validation preserves the exact three-filter targeted command, 637 source-input versus 559 package-input distinction, 565 delivered file count, explicit corrected Unicode02 donor/hash, old server toolchain versus current DLL pairing, parent-copied companion limitation, two actual native processes and known UI limitations. No Linux/full-suite/complete-OA-SA or unperformed publication claim was found.

The raw independent review's recorded draft-document hash remains a historical review-time identity. Later navigation/count/documentation closure edits were reviewed here and have a new hash below; the raw review is correctly unchanged. This report belongs outside raw's immutable inventory, preventing recursive review-of-itself inventory changes.

No new runtime or product acceptance is inferred from this packet-closure PASS. The earlier exact-artifact scoped Windows preview recommendation stands; delivery still requires the parent's subsequent confirmed publication and asset readback.
